The match, played in Odense, was halted in the 65th minute after the 34-year-old suddenly fell to the ground. Medical personnel rushed onto the pitch and attended to Eriksen before the game was eventually abandoned.
According to Denmark's national team doctor, Morten Boesen, Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but responded quickly after receiving medical attention.
“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly,” Boesen said.
Eriksen was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) following the cardiac arrest he suffered during Denmark's Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021. The device monitors heart rhythms and can deliver life-saving treatment if a dangerous abnormality is detected.
Following Sunday's incident, Eriksen was taken to hospital for further examinations to determine the cause of the collapse.
The midfielder's recovery has once again highlighted his remarkable return to professional football after the near-tragic incident at Euro 2020. After resuming his career with Brentford in 2022, he later played for Manchester United before joining VfL Wolfsburg in 2025.
Denmark captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg described the moment as shocking but praised the swift response of medical staff and players.
Just as during the Euro 2020 incident, players from both teams formed a protective circle around Eriksen while he received treatment. He was later seen walking to an ambulance under his own power.
Denmark coach Brian Riemer confirmed that Eriksen had sent a reassuring message to his teammates, saying he was okay.
The incident comes just days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although neither Denmark nor Ukraine qualified for the tournament.
