The Faculty of Business and Communication Studies (FBCS), The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has commenced its 2026 Annual National Conference with a strong focus on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping leadership and strengthening security management across Nigeria.
The three-day conference, holding from June 28 to June 30, 2026, at the institution's Assembly Hall, North Campus, is themed "Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Innovative Leadership and Security Management in Nigeria." The event has drawn academics, researchers, policymakers, security experts, communication professionals and students from different parts of the country to deliberate on one of the most pressing issues confronting modern governance and national development.
Speaking at the conference, the Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Associate Professor T.A. Lasisi, who serves as the Chief Host, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to promoting research, innovation and intellectual discourse capable of addressing contemporary national challenges. He noted that Artificial Intelligence has become a defining force across virtually every sector, making it imperative for Nigerian institutions to embrace emerging technologies in leadership, education and security administration.
The Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Mr. Femi B. Adedokun, who is hosting the conference, described the annual gathering as an important platform for exchanging ideas that will influence policy formulation and institutional development. He emphasized that the conference aligns with the faculty's vision of advancing knowledge through research and collaboration while preparing professionals to thrive in a technology-driven world.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Benjamin Osawaye Ehigie of the Department of Psychology, University of Ibadan, who also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. His presentation explored the relationship between Artificial Intelligence, human behaviour, organizational leadership and effective decision-making in an increasingly digital society.
The lead paper was presented by Professor Emmanuel Remi Aiyede of the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, and President of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA). In his presentation, he examined how Artificial Intelligence can be strategically integrated into governance structures and security architecture to improve public service delivery, policy implementation and national security while addressing ethical and regulatory concerns associated with AI adoption.
Throughout the conference, participants are expected to engage in technical sessions, scholarly paper presentations and interactive discussions focusing on Artificial Intelligence, digital governance, communication, leadership, security management and sustainable national development.
The conference is coordinated by the Local Organising Committee chaired by Dr. S. M. Abodunde, with Mr. Caleb Arulogun serving as the committee's secretary.
Organisers expressed optimism that the deliberations and recommendations emerging from the conference will contribute significantly to national conversations on responsible Artificial Intelligence adoption, innovative leadership practices and improved security management in Nigeria.
