Members of the Take-It-Back Movement on Monday staged a protest at Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan, demanding urgent government intervention over the worsening security situation in Oyo State and the continued captivity of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The protesters, who gathered at the busy intersection in the Oyo State capital, called on security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and tackle the growing wave of kidnappings across the state.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Security for all, not for a few,” “Government must end kidnapping in Oyo State,” and “Protect farmers, traders and students,” the demonstrators expressed frustration over what they described as escalating insecurity affecting residents and businesses.
Speaking during the protest, one of the demonstrators said Nigerians were increasingly losing confidence in the government’s ability to guarantee safety and protect lives.
“Let them know that the people of Nigeria are not at peace. Let them know that the people of Oyo State are not smiling. Let them know that the Nigerian people are fed up with insecurity,” the protester said.
The demonstration followed public outrage over the abduction of pupils, students and teachers during attacks on schools and surrounding communities in the Ahoro-Esiele area of Oriire Local Government Area.
According to reports, armed men invaded the affected schools and nearby communities, abducting several victims and sparking fear among residents and parents.
Relatives of the abducted victims have repeatedly appealed to the Oyo State Government and security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safe return of their loved ones.
Monday’s protest also came amid emotional appeals from family members, who continue to express concern and frustration over the prolonged captivity of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The protesters urged authorities to strengthen security across vulnerable communities, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are apprehended and prosecuted.
