The family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by suspected gunmen in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, following reports of the incident which occurred in the early hours of June 3, 2026.
According to the statement, Mrs. John-Paul, 43, was kidnapped around 7:30 a.m. while taking her children to school. Her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were also reportedly seized by the armed men during the attack.
The family disclosed that the victims were intercepted and forcefully taken away by the assailants while on their routine school run, triggering concerns among residents and relatives.
Mrs. John-Paul is a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian. She voluntarily retired from service last year and relocated to Ibadan with her children while making arrangements to join her husband in the United States.
The family said security agencies were immediately informed of the development and have since launched efforts to secure the safe release of the victims and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
While expressing deep concern over the incident, the family appealed to members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
They also called for prayers and support from Nigerians, urging anyone with credible information that could assist investigations to contact the appropriate security authorities.
