Saudi Arabia has announced that the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on the evening of March 18, 2026, confirming that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2026.
The announcement was made by the Saudi Supreme Court after reviewing reports from multiple observatories across the Kingdom, where astronomers and moon sighters had gathered to observe the crescent.
With the moon not sighted on the 29th day of Ramadan, the holy month of Ramadan will complete its full 30 days, in line with Islamic tradition.
Observations were conducted across several locations, including Tumair, Sudair, Madinah, Qassim, and Dammam, but no confirmed sighting of the crescent was recorded despite extensive efforts.
As a result, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and countries that follow its moon sighting declaration will mark Eid al-Fitr on Friday, bringing an end to a month of fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection.
Eid prayers in the Kingdom are expected to take place in mosques, with reports indicating adjustments due to forecasted weather conditions.
The development provides clarity for millions of Muslims worldwide who rely on Saudi Arabia’s official announcement to determine the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid.
