The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has stated that Nigeria may not be able to achieve a 100 per cent perfect election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan made this known on Sunday during a Citizens Town Hall Meeting on the Electoral Act held in Abuja, where he addressed concerns about the conduct of elections in the country.
According to him, while the commission remains committed to improving the electoral process, Nigerians should understand that achieving a completely flawless election may not be immediately possible.
“Let me just appeal to Nigerians because I have noticed now that what Nigerians desire is a perfect election. INEC will strive as much as possible to give this country the best election; however, we may not be able to achieve a 100 per cent perfect election for now,” he said.
The INEC chairman also dismissed concerns about electronic transmission of results, noting that the challenge was not necessarily about network failure but the adequacy of existing communication infrastructure across the country.
He emphasized that the commission would continue to work towards credible and transparent elections, assuring Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to strengthen the electoral system ahead of future polls.
The remarks come as preparations gradually begin for Nigeria’s next general elections, with stakeholders calling for improved transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
