Two prominent political figures in Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, were notably absent on Wednesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
The meeting was chaired by Governor Dapo Abiodun alongside the state APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and brought together several party leaders to deliberate on the future of the party and national issues. Among those present were former Governor Olusegun Osoba; former deputy governors Adegbenga Kaka, Segun Adesegun, Salmot Badru, and Yetunde Onanuga; as well as the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, and the Minister of State for Health, Dr Kunle Salako.
Also in attendance were the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Daisi Elemide, members of the National Assembly, and other key party stakeholders. The gathering, according to a statement released ahead of the event, was aimed at strengthening party unity and aligning leaders on strategic political and developmental goals.
Addressing the stakeholders, Governor Abiodun praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold steps that helped Nigeria avoid economic collapse while setting the nation on a path toward sustainable growth. He noted that policies such as fuel subsidy removal and the unification of foreign exchange rates were necessary decisions already yielding positive results.
The governor pointed to improved fuel supply, easing inflation, a stabilising naira, and increased investor confidence as signs of progress. He added that Nigeria’s foreign reserves had risen to about $45 billion and stressed that the reforms deserved continuity beyond the 2027 general elections.
Abiodun also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the coastal highway and the Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, while noting that Ogun State was experiencing increased industrial activity. He further called on party members to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying another term would ensure consolidation of current gains.
Speaking at the meeting, former Governor Osoba commended the president for demonstrating courage in implementing tough economic policies but urged governors to ensure that the benefits reach grassroots communities. He emphasised the importance of party unity, describing a cohesive APC as a strong force ahead of future political contests.
