Famous American streamer and internet personality, Darren Jason Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShowSpeed, has lavished praise on Nigerian cuisine, declaring Nigerian jollof rice the best in the world.
The outspoken content creator made the statement during a live broadcast in Lagos on Wednesday, as he joined the long-standing and often heated debate over which African country produces the finest jollof rice.
IShowSpeed, who recently arrived in Nigeria from Senegal, had earlier streamed Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy parade. Drawing from his experiences in both countries, the streamer offered a direct comparison between Senegalese and Nigerian jollof rice, ultimately siding with Nigeria.
“Nigerian jollof rice is good. It tastes better than Senegal jollof rice. I think I would have to go with Nigeria in terms of which country has the best jollof rice,” he said during the livestream.
His comments immediately sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, particularly among Nigerian fans who enthusiastically welcomed the endorsement. Many users praised Speed for “choosing correctly,” while others reignited the age-old jollof rivalry that often pits Nigeria against countries like Ghana and Senegal.
The jollof rice debate remains one of the most popular cultural discussions in Africa, frequently resurfacing online and at international events. Speed’s declaration has further fueled the conversation, adding the voice of a global influencer with millions of followers to the mix.
IShowSpeed’s visit to Nigeria has continued to generate buzz, as his livestreams capture his experiences with Nigerian culture, food, and nightlife, further spotlighting the country on the global digital stage.
