Gunmen on Saturday invaded Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, abducting a foreign expatriate and killing a police officer attached to him.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan.
According to Olayinka, the attackers stormed the facility in a commando-style operation, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire with security operatives guarding the expatriate.
“One police officer tragically died while repelling the attack, injuring some assailants, and the Chinese expatriate principal was abducted,” he said.
He added that the abductors sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation but still managed to escape with the victim.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to lead anti-kidnapping and tactical teams to the scene.
Olayinka disclosed that bush-combing operations are ongoing, while investigations continue to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
The incident comes barely days after a similar security breach in Oyo State. Recall that on January 6, 2026, bandits attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area, killing five personnel and injuring several others.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to curb the rising wave of violent attacks in the region.
