The commission will on Tuesday, October 6, hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where it is expected to provide updates on preparations for the elections.
The meeting will be addressed by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
According to the commission, discussions will focus on critical areas including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the 2027 elections.
INEC said the engagement is aimed at keeping Nigerians and other key participants informed about its preparations as the elections draw closer.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the commission said.
INEC also said the stakeholders’ meeting is part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with institutions and organisations whose roles are considered important to the successful conduct and security of the elections.
The commission described the engagement as part of its commitment to transparency, public communication and collaboration with key actors within the electoral process.
Expected participants include political party leaders, security agencies involved in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.
Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to attend the meeting.
The event comes as INEC enters a critical stage of preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the commission expected to complete several administrative, logistical and technological arrangements ahead of the polls.
INEC has not indicated whether any changes to the electoral timetable will be announced during the engagement. However, the commission said its chairman and other stakeholders would address participants on the state of preparations.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10am on Tuesday, with participants expected to be seated before the commencement of proceedings.
INEC said the event would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms to enable Nigerians who are unable to attend physically to follow the proceedings.
Attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation, while accredited journalists and invited guests will be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
