Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has assured Nigerians that the country will soon overcome its security challenges, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the nation.
Mrs Tinubu made the statement on Saturday during her engagement with traditional rulers in Ado Ekiti as part of her one-day working visit to Ekiti State.
Reacting to concerns over rising cases of kidnappings, banditry, and killings in parts of the country, the First Lady described the situation as painful and disheartening but assured citizens that both local and international efforts were ongoing to strengthen security and combat criminality nationwide.
According to her, the Federal Government has entered into strategic partnerships with developed countries, including the United States of America, to support Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
“President Tinubu has entered into partnership with developed countries like the United States of America and others, and is taking internal security measures to smash those terrorising the country and stoking the fire of killings and kidnappings across the geopolitical zones,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu noted that some of the individuals behind violent attacks and criminal activities in the country were non-Nigerians, stressing that Nigeria would not surrender to fear or intimidation.
“It is disheartening that we have this insecurity. A lot of foreign countries are helping our country. The US and some other developed countries are helping us in this matter.
“Some of those terrorising us are non-Nigerians. No matter what happens, we shall overcome. Nigeria is too great to be intimidated,” she stated.
The First Lady urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, united, and prayerful, assuring citizens that President Tinubu was working tirelessly to address the nation’s security concerns.
“I can assure you, we don’t have Mondays or Sundays; the President is working round the clock to get this matter resolved,” she added.
Mrs Tinubu also commended traditional rulers in Ekiti State for their support toward the administration of President Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing their cooperation as a strong motivation for good governance and development.
Speaking on her social intervention programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative, the First Lady disclosed that an ultra-modern ICT centre had been built at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, to support digital education among youths.
She further revealed that the initiative had endowed scholarship prizes worth N200 million for undergraduates and empowered 2,000 traders with grants of N50,000 each to support their businesses.
According to her, elderly persons, vulnerable groups, and people living with disabilities were also benefiting from various empowerment and support programmes aimed at improving their standard of living amid current economic realities.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts by the First Lady to promote education, women empowerment, youth development, and social welfare across the country.
