Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has threatened to expose politicians allegedly sponsoring kidnappers responsible for the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State if the attacks continue.
Igboho made the declaration while receiving newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Akinteye Babatunde, at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the activist alleged that some politicians were providing financial and logistical support to criminal groups operating in parts of the country.
“I know the politicians behind them, and if they do not stop perpetrating their evil acts, I will mention them all. The politicians behind them are the ones giving them ammunition and money,” Igboho said.
According to him, the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements were being sustained by influential individuals who benefit from the prevailing insecurity.
He also alleged that certain persons were deliberately working to make the country difficult to govern for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through insecurity and misinformation campaigns.
Speaking on the recent school abductions in Oriire Local Government Area, Igboho claimed he had volunteered to assist security efforts by pursuing the kidnappers in their hideouts but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government.
The activist maintained that he never requested financial assistance from the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde but only offered to deploy his men to help rescue the victims.
“Later, they informed me that the kidnappers said if I tried to rescue the children by force, they would kill them all. If they are serious about rescuing the victims, they should allow my boys and me to chase them out of the forests and see if they will remain there,” he stated.
Igboho argued that criminal groups occupying forests across the South-West could be dislodged if local security operatives were allowed to take decisive action against them.
He further disclosed that his security outfit, known as the Iru Ekun Security Network, had received federal approval but was unable to commence operations in Oyo State due to opposition from the state government.
“After I arranged the Iru Ekun Security Network, the Federal Government permitted me, but the state government said no security outfit must take a step behind them,” he said.
Despite the setback, Igboho expressed readiness to comply with all regulations guiding private security operations in the state, stressing that his primary concern remained the safety and rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers.
His comments come amid growing anxiety over the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The affected schools include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.
Security agencies have since intensified operations around forest corridors and suspected escape routes as efforts continue to secure the release of those still being held captive.
The incident has generated widespread concern across Oyo State, with residents and stakeholders calling for stronger security measures and the safe return of all victims.
