Six Abducted Celestial Church Worshippers Regain Freedom in Ondo

Six worshippers who were abducted from a Celestial Church in Uso community, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom.

The victims were reportedly released on Monday night in Ilado community, Akure North Local Government Area of the state, after spending days in captivity.

Sources disclosed that a ransom of ₦9 million was paid to secure their release, although security authorities have not officially confirmed the payment.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, had earlier confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the abduction. He revealed that five of the abducted worshippers are pregnant women, while one is physically challenged.

Lawal expressed concern over the use of the church premises as a maternity centre, describing the situation as worrisome amid the prevailing security challenges in the state.

In response to the incident, the police commissioner advised religious centres to suspend night worship for the time being as part of precautionary measures to enhance safety.

Security operations are ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to curb criminal activities across affected communities in Ondo State.
