The Osun State Government has split the 55.6-kilometre Iwo–Osogbo–Ibadan road project into three sections and awarded them to separate contractors in a move aimed at speeding up its completion.
The government said the decision is designed to fast-track the execution of the major inter-state road linking Osun with Oyo State, ease transportation bottlenecks, and boost economic activities along the corridor.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects in Iwo, the Director of Highways, Engr. Moruf Ojebode, disclosed that the road project has been awarded to Pecular Ultimate Concerns, Kimzee Global Resources, and A’skorg Integrated Service Limited.
According to him, the contractors will be mobilised within the month to commence work on their respective sections.
Ojebode also provided updates on the 3.6-kilometre dual carriageway under construction in Iwo, describing it as the first of its kind in the town. He said the project, which runs from Odo-Ori Market to Oja-Oba and extends toward the Post Office, has reached 50 percent completion.
He noted that drainage works have been completed, while walkways and the median are currently under construction. The second phase of the project, which will extend from the Post Office to Adeeke along the Iwo/Ibadan road, is yet to begin.
Residents of Iwo have commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for what they described as a renewed focus on infrastructure development in the area.
Chairman of the Iwo Board of Trustees, Prof. Lai Olurode, praised the administration’s efforts, saying the dual carriageway and other internal road projects reflect significant progress in the town.
Similarly, the Iyaloja of Iwo land, Chief Mujidat Sarumi, said the ongoing road construction would enhance mobility, improve safety, and stimulate commercial activities within the community.
The state government reiterated its commitment to completing the projects on schedule, stressing that improved road infrastructure remains central to its development agenda.
