The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged President Bola Tinubu to call the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to order over an alleged attempt to destabilize the party’s structure in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s state chairman, Chief Leader Sampson, alleged that the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area — and by extension across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State — is currently facing internal disruption.
He claimed the party uncovered what it described as a calculated move by Wike, allegedly acting through the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Charles Wobodo, and under the supervision of Samuel Nwanosike, to create parallel and unconstitutional structures within the ADC.
According to Sampson, the alleged actions include attempts to impose non-existent local government and ward executives, as well as directives encouraging elected ward councillors to unlawfully assume leadership positions within the party.
“The ADC views this development as a direct assault on democratic principles, political plurality, and the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freely associate and participate in the political process,” he said, stressing that the political space should remain open to all.
The party warned that attempts to stifle opposition often stem from fear of accountability and poor performance in public office, adding that such actions could threaten democratic stability.
ADC therefore called on the President to immediately intervene and urged relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations to prevent any political tension or crisis in Rivers State.
