The Oyo State Government has unveiled a comprehensive week-long programme of activities to commemorate the state’s 50th anniversary, marking five decades since its creation on February 3, 1976.
The Golden Jubilee celebration, themed “AjÃá¹£e bà ÌbÃlẹ̀ láà rÃ,” will commence on Monday, January 26, 2026, with an opening ceremony scheduled for 10:00am at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan.
According to the programme released by the organisers, activities on Tuesday, January 27, will include a free health outreach across all 33 local government areas, targeting senior citizens aged 50 and above and other vulnerable residents. The day will also feature film screenings by renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan across zonal centres in Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomosho, Iseyin, Eruwa and Saki.
On Wednesday, January 28, a colourful carnival and local government parade will take place from Mapo Hall to Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, followed by a musical concert at the stadium.
A lecture and symposium are scheduled for Thursday, January 29, at 10:00am at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, where stakeholders are expected to reflect on Oyo State’s achievements and future direction.
Activities for Friday, January 30, include a golf tee-off by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Ibadan Golf Course, a Jumat service at the Ibadan Central Mosque, Ojo Oba, and a golf dinner in the evening.
Saturday, January 31, has been designated Youth Day, featuring a novelty football match between the team of former Super Eagles star Mutiu Adepoju and the governor’s team at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, alongside an Isese service.
On Sunday, February 1, a thanksgiving service with Governor Makinde in attendance will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Aremo, Ibadan, followed by an evening engagement with elderly women and persons living with disabilities (PLWD) at Olounloyo Park, Airport Road, Ibadan.
The celebrations will continue on Monday, February 2, with a schools visitation programme, during which Engr. Tamunominini Makinde will lead the presentation of stationery to public school pupils across the state.
The Golden Jubilee celebration will climax on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, with a Gala and Award Night, featuring a cocktail reception, air show, dinner, entertainment and awards presentation.
The Oyo State Government said the activities are aimed at celebrating the state’s rich heritage, cultural diversity and developmental milestones achieved over the past five decades, while setting the tone for future growth and progress.
