Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state.
The governor was formally received into the APC on Friday in Jos, where the state chairman of the party, Mr. Rufus Bature, presented him with his APC membership card amid party supporters and stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mutfwang said his decision to leave the PDP was taken in the overall interest of Plateau State, stressing that governance under his leadership would remain inclusive and people-focused despite the change in party affiliation.
Describing the defection as a defining moment in the state’s political history, the governor urged residents to remain calm, united, and hopeful about the future.
“The journey we are embarking on is a journey of faith, and I strongly believe that Plateau State will reap the dividends of this union,” Mutfwang said.
Acknowledging concerns from skeptics and apprehensive citizens, the governor called for patience, assuring them that time would justify his decision.
“I know there are skeptics, but I say be patient. Time will reveal everything. To the fearful, I say take courage and fear no more. We have come for good,” he stated.
He further emphasized unity and collaboration, saying the move was aimed at strengthening cooperation and accelerating development across the state.
“We have come to join hands; we have come to work together. For those who may be apprehensive, I say once again, relax,” he added.
Governor Mutfwang also expressed gratitude to the PDP, his former party, for providing him the platform that shaped his political career. He noted that his defection to the APC would further motivate him to deliver quality leadership and deepen development in Plateau State.
In addition, the governor praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his strong commitment and affection for Plateau State. He pledged his loyalty and support for the President’s re-election bid in 2027, signaling closer political alignment with the ruling party at the federal level.
Mutfwang’s defection is expected to reshape Plateau State’s political landscape and spark renewed debate ahead of future elections.
