Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a N100 per litre increase in the retail price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), sparking concerns over a possible nationwide fuel price hike.
In a statement issued on Monday, the $20 billion refinery disclosed that its gantry price has increased to N799 per litre, while the retail price now stands at N839 per litre, up from N699 and N739 per litre respectively, which had been in effect since December 2025.
“Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per litre,” the refinery stated.
The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, said the company continues to supply the Nigerian market with about 50 million litres of petrol daily, noting that nationwide evacuation and distribution remain smooth despite recent operational challenges.
Industry data had earlier revealed that the refinery temporarily resorted to importing petrol to supplement supply due to downtime at its Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) unit.
As of Monday night, several filling stations across the country, including those operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), were selling petrol at prices ranging between N805 and N830 per litre.
Analysts warn that Dangote Refinery’s latest adjustment could trigger a broader increase in pump prices across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
It will be recalled that the refinery’s President, Aliko Dangote, had in December assured Nigerians that the N739 per litre price would be sustained nationwide in order to discourage fuel importation, stating at the time: “We don’t want people to sell petrol for more than N740 nationwide.”
